This humble, often rusty, tin grater is a foot soldier in the armoury of the domestic cook. A servant but a servant with bite. How often have we shaved the skin as well as the Parmesan?
Of the one-hundred-and-two graters that comprise this work, thirty-seven graters were generously donated to the project. While sitting in the kitchens of the donors talking about their experiences with their graters, it became clear that the handing down of the grater from one family member to another was a significant act.
